PROCEDURE SCHEDULES

Bone Density - DEXA ( BMD)                                          Total procedure Approximately 30mins

No injection required. Preparation - avoid metal buttons, buckles or zippers covering the spine and hip area.

Bone Scan                                                                         Total procedure 3-4hours

No preparation. 15 minutes scanning at time of injection, go away for 2-3 hours followed by scanning for

approx 60 minutes.

Brain Scan                                                                         Total procedure 1.5 hours

No preparation.

Cardiac Stress Test                                                          Total procedure 4-5 hours

No caffeine products for 24 hours, ie. Tea, coffee and chocolate. Check with referring Doctor regarding any

medications that may need to be ceased. On morning of test a light breakfast only. Comfortable clothing

should be worn for exercise.

Colon Transit Study                                                          Total Procedure: One week

No bowel medication to be taken 3 days prior or during the test. 9am on Monday for 10 minutes for drink,

return at approx 3pm for scanning for 10 minutes. Scanned for next four days at 8am for 10 minutes.

Gallium Scan                                                                      Total procedure 0.5-1 hour

No preparation. 5 minutes at time of injection, patient is then required to return at 48 hours after injection.

Scan for approximately 0.5 -1.0 hour. Sometimes scanning is required on further days.

Gated Cardiac Scan                                                          Total procedure 1 hour

No preparation.

Gastric Emptying Study                                                                Total procedure 2 hours

Nothing to eat or drink for 3 hours prior to test. Patient is required to eat a meal of eggs as part of the

study.

Hepatobiliary Scan (HIDA)                                                         Total procedure 1-1.5 hours

Fast for 3 hours prior to test.

Liver Spleen Scan                                                              Total procedure 1 hour

No preparation. Wait 20 minutes after injection and then scanned for 30 minutes.

Lung Perfusion Scan                                                         Total procedure 0.5 hour

No preparation. Bring current chest x-ray.

Renal DMSA Scan                                                               Total procedure 4 hours

No preparation. Injection followed by 3 hour delay then scanning for 30 minutes.

Renal DTPA Scan                                                                                Total procedure 0.5-1 hour

1 litre of fluid or more to be drunk prior to study (may go to toilet). Bring any previous scans.

Renal DTPA with Captopril                                                Total procedure 1.5 - 2 hours

1 litre of fluid or more to be drunk prior to study (may go to toilet). Captopril tablet is administered by

Doctor. Blood pressure monitored for 1 hour followed by 30 minutes of scanning.

Thyroid Scan                                                                        Total procedure 0.5 hours

No preparation. Thyroxine or anti-thyroid medication to be ceased. Check with referring Doctor regarding

this.

White Cell Scan Total procedure 4 - 5 hours

Fast from midnight. Blood sample taken at 9am. Re-injection of blood at 10am.

Scanning at 11am for 10 minutes with further scanning 2 hours later for 30 minutes.
